National Museum of American Jewish History

The prominent location of the plot for this museum demanded an appropriate iconic answer to the historic web of Philadelphia city centre as well as a public expression of the mission of this museum. The closed structure, clad with a special version of the ALPHATON® tile facade, rests partially on a reset, floor-high black granite base. However, the larger part is supported by pylons, which also withdraw, so that this massive cube seems to float above the glazed facade surfaces and thus allows deep insight into the goings-on at reception level from the street. 1,100 mm x 417.5 mm large facade tiles were integrated, each channelled by two pressed bars spread across the tile width, which are continued in certain areas as standalone BAGUETTES and thus dissolve the facades into airy, transluscent latticework.

On the bridges, balconies and passageways within the different floors between the glass facades and the interposed closed volume, the visitor finds the entire diversity of the architecture, creatively and in its execution, very much a masterpiece of rainscreen-clad facade engineering.
