Ceramic facade tiles in green and red

With the completion of the new Struenseestraße Campus in Altona-Altstadt, Hamburg’s largest school complex to date has been completed. Based on plans by the Rohdecan QUERFELDEINS consortium, a versatile learning environment has been created that includes two high schools and an all-day elementary school, as well as sports and outdoor facilities. The complex organizes the 2.85-hectare site into a clear sequence of functional zones and defines new urban interfaces with the surrounding neighborhood. The most distinctive design elements are the facades, which provide striking color accents and establish a subtle connection to the local context through their form. The wave-like structure is realized using concave ceramic panels from the manufacturer MOEDING. The duality of the two complementary colors, red and green, is omnipresent, as are the regularly alternating bands of glazing and vibrantly shimmering ceramic surfaces.
