Leipzig Süd heat and power plant

Leipzig Süd heat and power plant | Leipzig
The new Leipzig Süd heat and power plant recently set a construction milestone on the road to the heating transition. Instead of a former coal-fired power station, the site on Bornaische Strasse is now home to a plant designed for a climate-neutral future. Going forward, the district heating network is to be supplied with hydrogen technology – and, following a planned expansion, also with solar thermal energy. The planners at Atelier ST based their design on the existing listed buildings on the site and the small-scale urban neighbourhood. The result: A play of colors and facades made of bricks and ceramics that gives the power plant typology a completely new look.
